Tip No 1: Index your site with major search engines
The submission process to Google, Yahoo and Bing directly is quite easy. All you have to do, is to visit
their submission page and enter all the data required. Then you will have to wait till their programs called
spiders have crawled your website. After that it is a matter of time till they list your site. If you just submitted
your website to Google and then you let it be you would have to wait for weeks or months. till your site is
listed. One of the drawbacks of being newly registered or listed by e.g. Google is that you won't get high
ranking for your website for any keyword terms. The process of improving page ranking takes time but at
least you will be listed by the search engines. Don't expect huge traffic just from being listed by major
search engines.
However, one of the tricks which should speed up your listing by Google significantly is to bookmark your
website on a social bookmarking service such as Myspace, Facebook, Technorati etc. This can be done
by creating a user account on one of these services and then once you are registered all you have to do is
to bookmark your own website. These websites help rank stories, events, online news, gossip and web
pages based on user votes. The search engines place a lot of importance on this kind of ranking and the
site listed by these services get crawled very rapidly. If you bookmark your own website, it can be indexed
in all three major search engines in a few days.
Tip No 2: Create A Sitemap
First of all what is a Sitemap? A Sitemap is a webpage that lists all the pages that you currently have on
your site in a way that's easy for the search engines to see everything you have to offer and is a great way
to get your pages ranked. There are some companies that will create the Sitemap for you for a small fee.
You can also find some companies offering this kind of service for free but you will have to add the
Sitemap file to the root of your website. If you can create a Google-compliant Sitemap, you can be sure
to optomize your chances that every single page on your site ends up being listed in the Google Search
Engine.
Tip No 3:Optimize Your Pages and Content
Whoever said content is the king was right. If you are gearing your webpages towards certain keyword
terms, the more likely you'll be able to get them to rank for those terms. To do this, you must make your
page title, meta description, meta keywords list, and body content geared towards the keyword you want
to be ranked for.The key here is not to load each one of these factors with the keyword you're targeting,
rather, to use related keywords and themes so as to prove to the search engines that your page is relevant
to someone who's searching for the keyword you are targeting (Adopted from RichJerk.com).
Tip No 4: Submit Your Website
The first step of getting a free traffic was to submit your website to major search engines. Once you have
done that, you should continue with the website submission to other search engines. Moreover, there are
many internet directories that will list your website for free or in exchange for a reciprocal links as you will
see from the examples below. Once you have submitted your website to as many of them as you can, that
should bring you much more free traffic.
Tip No 5: Get Backlinks To Your Website
Backlinks are the links directed at your website from other websites. If you can get other websites linking
back to you using specific keywords in the link text, the search engines will assume your site is relevant for
those keyword terms and rank you higher in their results listings for those terms. This can be done by
offering to exchange links with other website owners, submitting your site to link directories in exchange for
reciprocal links placed on your website, participating in blog and forum discussions, and submitting
articles to related websites. Please note, the more websites are linking back to you, the more important
the search engines assume your website is. In other words, the more websites are linking back to you, the
more important the search engines assume your website is.
